Unlimited Wet Works

A reminder to all the new couples out there re-doing the toilets: Please ensure that you get the demolition guys to hack the toilet floor THOROUGHLY. I almost has a toilet floor level with my master bedroom floor.

It's been two weeks since the hacking was completed, and the wet works are well under way. The hacked areas have been made good and the cement screed-ing has begun. We went to the work site today happy to see that the living room mess (pile of sand and cement) has been nicely laid out on the floor and the balcony has been neatly levelled up with the rest of the home.
We seriously need to remove the ceiling lamps from this picture.. ughhhh...

Our ID has taken the liberty of choosing to conceal the pipes in both toilets (adding much aesthetic value as well as cost o.o) but the toilets are looking pretty good after the wall tiles (less the feature walls) got put up. We had stainless steel pipes running around the house and welded copper pipes behind the walls. I'd give the plumbing job a 7/10 without stating the reasons.

We also have a niche opening in the MBR bathroom wall for our soap and stuff, my wife have tons of these things, and the result was a little confusing. It's not that the job wasn't well done, but simply because the wall tiles were not up and you had a yellow wall with three dark holes. Lets hope this turns out okay. (In my ID I trust)
Niche built into our hollow block wall. Color is odd now.

Finally, our MBR wall has been knocked down to accommodate our wardrobe (see 3D drawings to understand what I mean). Looking at the size of the combined MBR and bedroom 2, I have a slight inkling to not build the wardrobe as planned and keep the place as big as it is right now. Well, realitically, I don't want to lose one more room so nothing is done. Observe the picture below to see what I mean.
The connected rooms can make one HUGE bedroom space

So that's a wrap for this fortnight's report. Next week, we'll be putting up the rest of the plumbing, electrical  points and false ceiling. Once those are done, the flooring will finally being. Anyway, links to the rest of the pictures of the wet work phase can be found here.

Demolition Complete

Old things need to be demolished before new things can be created.

All demolition works are done (expect for the "stiffener" that is awaiting demolition under supervision from a P.E.) and the tiling works are about to commence. Added some pictures of the place after demolition here.

Bringing down the kitchen wall was awesome. The place became much brighter, and you could feel air flowing from the balcony, out to the kitchen and yard windows... Seems like the "radical" decision to demolish the kitchen wall would actually turn out okay.

One interesting thing though, is that my wife is starting to complain that our place is looking a little small. Work stress must be really getting to her...   =.=

Smashing

Whoa... Finally back from NYC and suffering a little from jet lag as I write this blog. Just touched down this morning and we are going to chose our sinks and toilets later in the sweltering hot afternoon.

I gave the worksite a visit and found all the walls all smashed up and good to go. A few problems I realised though, was that the toilet floors weren't hacked up completely. (a 100mm drop became 50mm) Will have to get the men to give the floor one more whack before we start the rest of the water-proofing, tiling and what-nots.

Meanwhile, our ID completed the next few 3D drawings and I've uploaded them here.

New Keys and Starting Work

Okay. We've finally gotten hold of the keys after a somewhat disappointing HDB 2nd appointment. Our PoA was late, and we had a really ugly old grouch (male) as the executive charged with handling the case. Anywayz, we've got the keys and that's that.

Our mums were there the same evening, doing what all superstitious mothers do. It was freaking warm and humid these days but we had to endure the heat as they proceeded with the "拜拜". They were happy, but I hope I didn't scare my neighbours (obviously not Chinese folk). LOL.

Our he-who-shall-not-be-named ID is looking to start work soon...once we get a PE to certify we can destroy half the apartment... This part is a pain, as our work will be slightly delayed due to all the paper work to be done. On the bright, our marble tiles are already on the way to sunny Singapore! (Let's hope it looks really nice)

Been sent to NYK for a biz trip for the whole of next week, so my dear wife will be handling the supervision of our ID and the renovation for the first week. I should be back just when the house gets a proper knocking and ready for the tiling work.

And finally, a picture of our keys...

Our journey of a thousand miles starts with this first step.
(maybe its just 2km from where I currently live.. will check google maps next time)
